Facilities
The Clinical Research Center's
clinic is housed on the first floor of the EVMS Jones Institute. Clinical facilities
include consultation rooms, examining rooms, a work station for collecting and processing
specimens, and a clinical laboratory with the capability to perform a wide range of
endocrine testing. Also available within the center are routing gynecologic examinations
(Pap smears, endometrial biopsies, and colposcopies), transvaginal ultrasounds, and bone
densitometry evaluations.
Research equipment includes a
Hologic QDR 1500 bone densitometer for lumbar spine, hip, and forearm bone scans, two
General Electric RT 3200 ultrasound units with abdominal and vaginal probes, and vaginal
colposcopy equipment. Video monitoring and recording are available for both ultrasound and
colposcopy procedures.
The CRC has developed a central
data-base of more than 10,000 potential volunteers who have indicated an interest in or
participated in clinical trials. Consultants in epidemiology and biostatistics are
available to aid in study design, implementation and data analysis. Ancillary facilities
on the EVMS campus provide evaluation and collaboration in other medical disciplines. Two
modern multi-specialty hospitals are located in the medical complex and are available for
consultation and support services. |
